GSE — GIAC Security Expert
GIAC's flagship elite credential and the most prestigious certification in cybersecurity. GSE is a portfolio certification — there is no separate exam. Candidates earn GSE by completing any 6 GIAC Practitioner certifications and any 4 GIAC Applied Knowledge (GX-series) certifications, all of which must remain active. The credential co-terminates with the expiry of the constituent certs, incentivizing ongoing renewal. As of 2026, fewer than 350 individuals hold the GSE globally. The practical weight is effectively 80%+ because the GX-series Applied Knowledge requirements are all CyberLive hands-on exams. DoD 8140 approved — listed across all military branch COOL systems. The GSE is the career-defining capstone for elite GIAC practitioners and is recognized by name in senior government and cleared contractor cybersecurity positions.
